During that initial visit, Dr. Ahmadian will count teeth, check how they are coming in, look at the gums, and talk with you about brushing, bottles, thumb sucking, and what to expect next. If your child is willing, we’ll perform a gentle cleaning. If your child isn’t willing that day, that’s normal and not a failed appointment. Plenty of children need a visit or two just to decide the dentist’s chair isn’t a threat.
After that, regular checkups do two things. They catch small problems while they’re still small, and they build the habit of going to the dentist without dread. The second one matters more than most parents expect. Adults who are afraid of the dentist almost always got that way as children, and Dr. Ahmadian does everything possible to ensure your child feels comfortable and unafraid when visiting his office.

Phrases such as “it won’t hurt” tend to introduce an idea that was not there yet, while phrases like “we’ll be just fine” offer positivity and togetherness.
It’s also a good idea to bring something familiar for the child to hold on to, like a stuffed animal or headphones.
As for our dental practice, we always go slowly with kids. We’ll tell them what we’re doing before we do it, and we stop when they ask us to. Nothing about a checkup has to happen in one visit. If we get through half of it and your child leaves feeling fine about the place, that’s a successful appointment.
